Filtration is the basic operation of the treatment, as provides for the removal of suspended particles, including organic ones, thus allowing both more direct action of the disinfectant against pathogenic organisms, and reduced consumption of the same.

The essential effect of a good filtration, consist the removal of turbidity. The turbidity is caused by the presence of very small particles that hinder the passage of light through the water layer.

The filters used to do this are:
